Loud in the Pines

bittersweet songs best played outside

Loud in the Pines is the Edmonton-based, indie-folk duo of musicians Kelin Flanagan (vocals, keys) and Spencer Taubner (vocals, guitar). Through seamless vocal harmonies and layered acoustic sounds, they explore themes of heartfelt connection set in the natural world. Their first full-length album Every Colour Left won a 2026 Canadian Folk Music Award (Producer of the Year, Ben Plotnick).

In June 2023, Loud in the Pines released their first EP, bitter bright, which was recorded and mixed in their home studio.

In 2024, they received a major project grant from the Edmonton Arts Council for their first full-length record, Every Colour Left. The songs were recorded at Riverdale Recorders by Scott Franchuk, mixed by Jarred Albright, and produced by Ben Plotnick (The Fretless, Oliver the Crow, Atwood Quartet). The record features stories of love, connection, growth, and acceptance in soaring full-band arrangements, and was released on May 16, 2025.

Loud in the Pines has been featured on CBC (Edmonton AM's Provincial Playlist, Tarik Robinson's Key of A), CKUA, CJSR (including a live session on Rhea March's It Takes A Village and an appearance on Alan Donnelly & Liz Pomeroy's Two Irish Don't Make A Right), and campus/community radio across Canada.

“Beautifully rendered original indie folk with lush acoustic tones, honest vocals, fresh unexpected songwriting, and a captivating array of cinematic arrangements. An incredibly impressive debut.”

— Ivan Rosenberg, recording/mixing/mastering engineer for multiple JUNO and Canadian Folk Music Award–nominated albums

Loud in the Pines recently released their first full-length record, Every Colour Left: an indie-folk project of original songs sharing personal stories of home - how you build it, how you care for it, and what happens when your foundations are shaken up. The record was inspired by the hundred-year-old house that they call home and the community that surrounds it.
